Tip #5 Reduce Tension in Less Than 5 Minutes
GAME CHANGING PERFORMANCE TIP #5
Reduce Tension in Less Than 5 Minutes
This simple, yet very effective technique, is one of my favourites.
Use it while you are grooming, before and after your ride, or anytime. can apply this very simple technique at anytime to relax your horse. By gently stroking the hairs of the dock of the tail or slightly lifting the tail in your hand, you are sending messages to the horse to help him relax. Watch for subtle changes in breathing, eye blinking, shifting weight, licking/chewing, or maybe your horse will respond with a big yawn and head shake!
The purpose of this MastersonMethod® technique is to release tension that may be pulling on the sacrum and causing torque on the sacroiliac joint. It affects the entire spine through the back and into the poll/atlas junction.
GIVE IT A TRY!
Place the back of your hand under the tail (or cup the tail in the palm of your hand).
Slightly lift; carefully watch your horse’s expression. They can be subtle; blinking, change in breathing quivering lips. Stop at the first blink.
Wait for a minimum of two to three minutes or until the horse releases ie. lick, chews, yawns etc.
If the horse clamps his tail when you try to lift it, simply lift one or two tail hairs instead.
